Perfect Pinup Lisa Frankenstein keeps it Sassy and Classy

Judging only by her photos, you might think Lisa Frankenstein is just your average, sweet, demure pinup girl. And, while she is very sweet and very kind, she has a spicy side you can’t help but love. Her sassy but classy attitude is why she won Perfect Pinup June! Lisa is a wonderful reminder to women everywhere that you can dress however you please, and still demand respect — with a smile as sweet as cherry pie, no less. It was so much fun getting to know Lisa Frankenstein, and I know you all will enjoy getting to know her, too!

How long have you been into the Pinup and Vintage culture?
“Honestly, as long as I can recall. I’ve always been fascinated with the style, and the look of vintage culture. Growing up, I watched a lot of TV Land with my Mother and I fell head over heels in love with Lucille Ball. To this day, no one compares to her level of style and sophistication for me. I can watch reruns of I Love Lucy on repeat and still find something new to love about her. I wanted to grow up and be like Lucy.”

What do you love most about being a Pinup?
“The way it makes me feel! Seriously, I don’t care if everyone else thinks I look hideous, I love the way I feel when I get dressed in the mornings. It’s just such a wonderful juxtaposition between dressing what is perceived to be one way, and still being this badass woman that takes no crap. It’s me, and it’s just such a wonderful confidence booster to dress in a way that I love and know that it makes me look good. It’s also just a fabulous community. I have met some absolutely wonderful people because of our shared sense of style. I love they way that the pinup scene is so supporting and tends to build one another up. It’s just a lot of fun to get all glammed up with your friends and tell them how fabulous they look.”

Describe your first shoot. Were you nervous? What did you think of yourself all pinned up?
“Oh man, I was a nervous wreck for my first shoot! The photographer and hair and makeup artist were absolutely wonderful and helped my clueless self through the whole process. I mean everything. They were super complimenting, understanding and basically posed me position by position. haha
After the first few clicks of the camera, I got a little more comfortable, but if it hadn’t been for them, I know I would have been a stiff, awkward mess throughout the whole experience. When I looked in the mirror after hair and makeup, I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped. I had done some half-assed attempts before at pinup hair, but this. This was leagues above what I could have done. I knew as soon as I looked in that mirror, this was the style for me. I had so much confidence in front of that camera! I’m still not sure where it came from, because I am basically the shyest of the shy. Those girls worked miracles.”

What do you think Pinup has to offer others?
“Honestly, I feel like pinup is what you make it. For me, it helped me find a style that compliments my shape and the confidence came along with that afterward. It helped me find a group of strong, like-minded women that aren’t afraid to stand up for what they believe in. It helped me realize (even more so than before) that we don’t all have to agree, but we can be adults and coexist with one another. You probably won’t have the same experience as me, but that doesn’t make what is has to offer you any less important.”

What advice do you have for those who want to get into it, but maybe think they can’t pull it off or are nervous to try it?
“Do it. Wear the outfit you want, hold your head high, and rock the shit out of it. I remember buying my first dress and being so nervous to put it on and go out of the house in it. But, I did. And I got a lot of looks, but even more compliments and positive reactions. It doesn’t matter what other people think- wear the clothes you want, and be happy! Life is too short to try and conform to what other people think you should look like.”
