Getting Carshow Season Ready: What a Pinup Needs!

It’s that time of year again. The weather is warming up, the chrome is being polished, and engines are tweaked and tuned. That’s right, carshow season is officially here with the biggest kickoff at Viva Las Vegas. But, before you run out the door or hop on that plane to the next car show, keep in mind that a Pinup must be prepared! So, here’s a little check list I’ve made to make sure you arrive as your most exceptional self, including some of my personal tips for attending some of the biggest, most fabulous events.

___ Schedule a facial.
At least two weeks before your event, consider pampering your skin and make an appointment at your local salon or plastic surgery center. You don’t have to do anything drastic, and you absolutely don’t have to go broke to take care of your skin. I recommend checking out Groupon for local deals and reading reviews. If you have never had a facial before, make sure you communicate your skin needs and concerns with your esthetician. Don’t hesitate to ask a bunch of questions, especially about anything you should do at home after your procedure. A facial will rejuvenate your skin and help it to look youthful and refreshed for all the meeting and greeting you’ll be doing!

___ Touch up your hair.
It doesn’t hurt to get those ends trimmed, touch up those roots, and get your hair to its healthiest. I would schedule a hair appointment one week out from your event. If you are like me and prefer to do your hair at home, just make sure you don’t leave it to the last minute 😉

___ Practice your hairstyle.
Pinterest is such a great place to find inspiration for hairstyles… and yet, not all of them are easy, no matter how many tutorials you watch. Even if you have that tutorial memorized, if you have never actually styled your hair that way, you should consider a practice run before your event. Learn how your hair operates when you want it to form a perfectly shaped victory roll, or how you should set your hair to get the kind of curl you want. Knowing how your hair will behave ahead of time will help you from feeling rushed or stressed on the day you need your hair to stay in place.

___ Give some attention to your hands and feet.
You don’t necessarily need to make a trip to the spa for a mani-pedi day, but do make sure that your nails are clean and nicely kept. I generally just make sure to keep mine filed in a nice shape, and I may polish them with a clear or red (if I’m feeling daring). Make sure to pack a small nail kit in your purse, just in case! You’ll be amazed at just how much more elegant you feel after taking care of your nails.

___ Pack an emergency kit.
These are your Pinup First-aid items, if you will. Heaven forbid a seam should rip on a dress (I’ve had that happen on the dance floor before), or the sole of your shoe should come unglued (that happened to me walking through a parking lot), or your eyelashes aren’t outlasting your evening (definitely have experienced that on multiple occasions), or your feet have had enough of your heels but you still have to get back home (if I had a nickle…).
This doesn’t mean you need an oversize bag or multiple totes. Everything I just mentioned can be remedied with very small items that will fit in a small purse or handbag. Invest in a travel-size sewing kit; a lot of the times these come with multiple colored thread and a couple sewing needles. E6000 has become my go-to for shoe repairs, and it now even comes in the tiniest of tubes! (This glue can also fix rhinestone dilemmas, jewelry, and can save you from a number of fiascos). Always remember to bring a small tube of eyelash glue, just in case those eyelashes want to take a break before your night is over. Lastly, those adorable heels you love so much could become your worst enemy by the end of the night, and walking back barefoot may not be the best option. Someone truly brilliant invented “roll up flats.” They are literally flats that roll up very small so you can carry them in your purse for when your feet have had enough! I recommend buying 1 size up as these may feel quite snug on swollen feet. Make sure to pack some band-aids, too, for any blisters or tender spots.

___ No matter what, Smile!
Even if your hair style falls out of place, even if you forget to paint your toe nails, even if you snag or nylons or who knows what, it truly doesn’t matter as long as you let your real fabulousness shine through. Everything on this list I made is merely a suggestion and steps that I try my best to follow to always put my best foot forward and feel a little more at ease at big functions. After all, you never know who you will meet, or who may want a photo with you! So, get those red lips ready for that selfie and have a ball!

I hope this little list of ideas helps you! Please let me know if it does, or if you have any questions about what I’ve posted. I am more than happy to help you if I can, and I look forward to hearing from you!
